Vibration Assisted Machining: Theory, Modelling and Applications
5. Tool Wear and Burr Formation Analysis in Vibration-Assisted Machining
Download citation file:
Increasing tool life and part quality is imperative in high-value machining performance and productivity. The reduction of tool wear and suppression of burr formation are the main benefits of applying vibration assistance to the machining process; the former is more relevant with hard-to-machine materials and the latter is applicable to all ductile materials. Numerous research efforts have focused on investigating the removal and deformation mechanisms of materials in vibration-assisted machining from the perspective of tool wear and burr formation. This chapter considers the mechanisms of the tool wear and burr formation and their classification, and reviews current developments in tool...
